e-Redact recognises that each time content is redacted, more and more context is lost from the original document.

e-Redact avoids this pitfall by allowing users to enter a “reason for redaction” (i.e. a comment or a code) for each term that is redacted.  For example, rather than simply redacting a “Police Officer Witness” name entirely, the tool can be used to remove the personal details, but apply a reason code of “Police Witness”.  This reason code (Police Witness) would be automatically appended to each redaction applied for the Police Officer Witness personal details throughout the entire output file, thus retaining the context of the document.
